The region surrounding the Princeton Nursery Lands is rich with natural, cultural and historic points of interest.
The Kingston Mill
The Kingston Mill was the centerpiece of an early colonial settlement dating to around 1683. The former grist mill, located on the Millstone River is now within the D&R State Park and it is also part of The Kingston Mill Historic District which includes 490 acres, 16 buildings, and 2 structures, as listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In 1777, During the American Revolution, an earlier wooden bridge was destroyed by Continental troops who were hoping to delay the British retreat from Princeton. The arched stone bridge in the photo was first built in 1798. The D&R State Park and The Kingston Mill Historic District are a short walk from the main parking area of the Mapleton Preserve, as are several additional points of interest and trails. See our friends at the Kingston Greenways Association for more information on local trails, history and things to do and see when visiting The Mapleton Preserve and historic Kingston N.J.
